Cycling Computers
For ambitious cyclists seeking improved cycling performance.

Here is Polar's newest Cycling Computer. The first in the market to offer rocker switch operation and a sleek, exrta-large display screen. The CS500 is also compatable with the wireless Polar Power Output Sensor W.I.N.D., which provides the rider with cycling power, enabling the highest level of professional training. The CS500 has an extra-large and aerodynamic display - with outstanding visibility, and allows more information to be displayed on the screen, creating a data-rich, cycling computer. Second, the diamond-shaped handlebar unit sits on a pivoting, two-way rocker switch. When cyclists want to change the screen to view different data, they no longer have to take their hands off the bars - they simply use their thumb to lightly tap the left or right side of the CS500, and the screen instantly flips to reveal a different set of performance data. With this unique design, cyclists can better concentrate on their ride.

Polar is revolutionizing the way cyclists view, track, and monitor their data. From design to functionality, cyclists can train at a higher level with features including the Industry's first two-way rocker swith that easily allows the user to easily view data and rich feedback such as speed, cadence and power. Designed with competetive riders in mind, the CS500 tracks speed, distance, cadence, heart rate, calories burned, incline, altitude, ascent and descent, and temperature. Up to four different data points can be displayed on the extra-large screen and using the auto-lap splits feature, miles automatically rollover and cyclists can see a snapshot of their data per lap. To simplify training at the right level and help cyclists get a better workout, the exclusive Polar OwnZone feature provides a personalized, target heart rate recommendation on how hard to ride. A separate accessory - Polar Power Output Sensor W.I.N.D. can track high-level cycling data such as Power output. With Power meter compatibility - available at an affordable price - the CS500 can evolve with a cyclist, as they become more advanced and their training needs expand.

Why use a Heart Rate Monitor?

By monitoring heart rate, the simple observation that the harder we exercise, the faster our heart beats is put to good use. Professional athletes and amateurs alike have for decades been relying on the information provided by their heart rate monitor for the following reasons:

1. A heart rate monitor is like a rev counter, giving a precise measurement of exercise intensity.
2. Training at your own ideal pace is made possible with a heart rate monitor.
3. Direct measurement of heart rate during exercise is the most accurate way to gauge performance.
4. Progress can be monitored and measured, increasing motivation.
5. It maximizes the benefits of exercise in a limited amount of time.
6. It introduces objective observation. Are you on the right track? Are you improving?
7. It is a tool for regulating frequency and intensity of workouts.
8. Because of the immediate feedback it provides, heart rate monitoring is an ideal training partner.

How does it work?

When you start training, your heart rate increases rapidly in proportion to the intensity of the training. In Polar Heart Rate Monitors, the transmitter belt detects the electrocardiogram (ECG - the electric signal originating from your heart) and sends an electromagnetic signal to the Polar wrist receiver where heart rate information appears.

The heart moves blood from the lungs (where the blood picks up oxygen) to the muscles (which burn the oxygen as fuel) and back to the lungs again. The harder the training, the more fuel the muscles need and the harder the heart has to work to pump oxygen-rich blood to the muscles.

As you get fitter, your heart is able to pump more blood with every beat. As a result, your heart doesn’t have to beat as often to get the needed oxygen to your muscles, decreasing resting heart rate and exercise heart rate on all exertion levels.
